FOREVER BLACKBIRDS
Told in dual timelines, Forever Blackbirds traverses protagonist Marta Gottlieb’s escape from 1914 Russia to her adversities in rural North Dakota during WWII. While young Marta embarks on an arduous immigrant journey, adult Marta, now in her mid-forties, begins to question her evangelical faith in the turbulence of mid-century America. Forging her way through war’s inevitable deaths, estrangement from her community, and the disquieting realities of a loveless marriage, Marta discovers an indomitable spirit she didn’t know she possessed.
ABOUT THE CARLETON SISTERS
A mother's impending death forces her three alienated middle-aged daughters--a diner waitress, a heartsick alcoholic, and a Las Vegas showgirl whose career is on a sharp decline--to finally face each other and the mystery of their father's disappearance.
Welcome to my author page! I'm excited to present my first novel, About The Carleton Sisters, published by She Writes Press. Though I started in the Dakotas, I have been a West Coaster since adolescence. I studied both writing and counseling psychology in San Francisco. An early focus on poetry led me to fiction. Recently, I've published personal essays in The Big Smoke, a weekly online magazine, and contributed to a collaborative book, 2020* The Year of the Asterisk. I write and work as a therapist in Portland, Oregon.
